The public are invited to visit the MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival’s virtual head office – http://www.splashfestival.com/.
According to festival organiser, Glenn van Eck, the site is set to form an intrinsic link between the public and the event, which takes place over Easter weekend at Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth. “It will be a hub of festival information on tap.”
Local specialists in the development of purpose-built web-based applications, Online Innovations, were once again tasked with the responsibility of the Splash Festival's website, says Van Eck.
Online Innovations’ Dirk Erasmus says the site offers a custom-made platform for the organisers to reach the public and to showcase the event and the city to web users around the globe.
“In essence it is a one-stop shop for all Splash Festival information, whether you are attending it or if you just want to feel part of the action.”
Van Eck says they are very pleased about the sponsorship. “It is a powerful marketing tool and with Online’s help we want to extract its full potential by keeping people posted on the latest happenings, competitions and news.”
He says Splash is a watersport family festival to which the whole community and visitors are invited and this message is clearly conveyed by the site.
Splash Festival programme consultant, David Limbert, says the agility of the site means the public can easily be informed of programme changes. “In essence, it means we are in a position to keep a few surprises up our sleeves.”
Limbert says the varied nature of the programme – which includes live entertainment, beach and watersports as well as other sporting events – calls for information to be centralised. “The site will allow festivalgoers to plan their weekend in advance.”
